Sleep, Sleep, Glorious Sleep

Not being woken up by a crying baby is an amazing feeling.  AMAZING.  First let me say that I have never been one who loves to sleep or will sleep for long periods of time, that has always been left up to my brothers.  I have always functioned well on not too much sleep, 6-7 hours or so.  The adjustment of sleeping in 3 to 4 hour segments wasn’t terrible but it became exhausting when you NEVER HAD A NIGHT OFF for 5 straight months.   I was going a bit crazy to put it lightly.

We decided to start Addie on cereal and drum roll please….it worked!!  For almost 2 weeks now she has slept for 12 to 13 hours straight.

Life is so much easier being able to go to bed and get up on your own accord.

Random cute thing….these days if you make the humming sound before giving Addie a kiss she tries to find your face and give you a big slobbery big one all over your face.  It is ADORABLE.

Things I don’t want to forget……

This week little Addie turned 5 months old.  As much as time flies, it is so amazing how much she changes on a daily\weekly\monthly basis.  As another month passes us by, I just don’t want to forget about some of these things -

*She stretches her belly out as much as possible after you take her diaper off.  This is her way of telling you her diaper is WAY too constricting.  After stretching she proceeds with moving her arms and legs back and forth as much as possible to take advantage of her naked freedom.

*She is a little dare devil.  She laughs at hanging upside down and being thrown up in the air.

*She is TICKLISH, she guarantees to laugh if you tickle her sides, feet, under her chin…it is ADORABLE.

*She can be entertained for hours laying on her blanket and playing with empty plastic bottles – there really is no need for toys.

*In the last month she has entertained herself with her taking out her paci and chewing on all sides of it…she is most content when putting almost anything in her mouth (remote, books, toys, etc)

*Has been a little night owl up until a couple of days ago (hope I am not jinxing myself by typing this).

*99% of the time she wakes up in a good mood, half of the time you don’t even know she is awake unless you see her in her monitor playing with her toes or paci.

*When she sees you come into her room after a nap, she does a coordinated dance like thing where she moves her legs up and down and her arms the same in a coordinated movement…kind of hard to explain, but it’s pretty cute.

*HATES, HATES, HATES getting dressed most of the time, she will scream until she is red in the face sometimes, it is quite dramatic.

*She’s a chatter box but only around Dave and I, she tends to be shy in front of new people.

*She loves her reading time, she helps you turn the pages with her toes or hands.

*She has yet to poop, pee or spit up on Dave and yet it is almost a daily occurrence on me, and I don’t feel special because of it.

These are just a few of my favorite memories in the last month.

Reading

Addie LOVES to read, or eat books.

Here she is loungin’ with Dad reading her books

She gives me the evil eye since I interrupted their story time.

Sleep Strike

Every once and a while Addie gets to a point where she goes on a sleep strike (like today).  She refuses to take naps and gets extremely worked up that it gets next to impossible to calm her enough to try and coax her to sleep.  A few weeks ago we were in a midst of a sleep strike, we had tried EVERYTHING to try to get her to take a nap and nothing.  I left the room and Dave try to play with her to get her in a good mood.  I come back a few minutes later only to find her completely knocked out, you will never guess how she fell a sleep……P1130481

Yep, that’s right, propped as Dave’s little pillow.  We were both so in shock that it finally happened that we didn’t want to move her.  She slept like that for an hour and a half.

Saturdays and Sleep

I have come to a point to where I so look forward to the weekends and most specifically Saturday mornings.  The reasoning being is that I hope to have a day of rest, after 5 straight months of having interrupted sleep at night, I long for the mornings to where I can maybe get an hour or 2 of extra sleep after a long week of getting up for work.

Addie has been giving us some good nights of sleep, for instance on Thursday she went down at 8:30, woke up at 3 to feed and then did not wake up until 11:30 this next morning…RIDICULOUS.  What a tease this is.  For the last several weeks I lay my head down on my pillow on Friday night already dreaming of a long nights rest and a longer morning in bed only to be sadly disappointed.  It’s like she knows.  She gets her little happy self up for her nightly feed around 3 or4 and then she is up for the day at 7’ish….really?!?!?

Cereal

We have officially started Addie on cereal.  We did this after I had been diagnosed with an upper respitory infection and needed some rest.  Dave’s solution was to try to give Addie some cereal in hopes that she might sleep through the night.   No luck sleeping through the night, but it has given us more of a nightly routine and she is going down much earlier (around 8:30 instead of 11:00).

Who knows how much she is really eating, it seems like she only gets a spoonful down and the rest on her hands, feet, head, counter, etc.

This was her first experience eating cereal, this was the only time she had clothes on during her meal, it just gets too messy :)

Pops

This week Addie got to spend some time with her Pops.  Dave made an emergency trip home to see his Dad as things turned for the worse.  Thankfully after a new medicine and many, many prayers Dave’s dad is doing much better.  He is still in the hospital but his condition is a lot different than it was a week ago.

With Dave out of town and me at work…Addie got to spend some time with her Pops for a few days.  The first day was a little rough as she got used to her new environment, but not too bad.  By the end of her visit she was all smiles and really loved her time with her Pops and Granny.

Thanks Pops!!!
